Thank you for inquiring about having your child Baptized at St. Mary Nativity/Holy Cross parishes.
The Sacrament of Baptism immerses us in the paschal mystery. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as beloved sons and daughters of God. By being baptized, we become members of the Catholic Church and our parish communities of St. Mary Nativity & Holy Cross.
Baptisms are held on the Second and Fourth Sundays of each month. We conduct Baptismal Preparation Classes on the First Sunday of each month from 10:30 until Noon.
For parents who are Baptizing their first child, we require them to attend a Baptismal Preparation class; offering for this class is $30 per family. Parents, and grandparents are welcome to attend the class together. Godparents/sponsors are encouraged to attend a class as well, to best understand their role, which is to help the baptized live in this world to always give the greater glory to God.
Prior to scheduling a Baptismal date and selecting the child(ren)’s godparents/sponsors, please note the following instructions for godparents/sponsors:
From the Code of Canon Law:
Sponsors for the sacraments of Baptism and/or Confirmation must be Catholics who have been confirmed and have already received the sacrament of the Most Holy Eucharist; and who lead a life in harmony with the faith and the role to be undertaken. (Cans. 874 & 893)
Godparents will be asked to fill out a Baptismal Sponsor Affidavit form and have it signed by their home parish pastor; and must be able to attest to the following requirements:
One godparent/sponsor, male or female, is sufficient; but there may be two, one of each sex.
